Hi all,
As with spam email, the moment you open an item, it triggers some type of action that alert the spammer of a potential opening to your email or website. Some of these chumps are very tricky and conniving and will have some type of thread that appears innocent enough until you realize what's really going on.
One of the best ones so far was the kat who tried to throw religion in the mix. Then you see VI@GR@ in the signature....like yeah now we KNOW why Jesus really LOVED you.
Anyways, a good way not to fall into the trap is to hold your mouse over the subject and a small balloon will appear indicating some of the text that's included in the thread/topic. You will be able to tell that it's spam.
I'm doing this now and just deleting them and banning these users (for all eternal damnation). I know some of the other moderators are doing same.
Another good thing about the balloon is that it helps from opening a real serious bad link while you're at work. Some of these spammers have posted some heavy heavy stuff. Can't waste time trying to explain THAT to the boss.
