Over on WCP Tetris might have finally figured out a way to get rid of spam bots signing up...

In the register stuff he has two "verification" questions... one is a simple math problem, the other is an answer yes or no question

check it out
http://www.westcoastpoppin.com/popping-locking-forum/register.php

Just check out his information fill in part... you'll see what I'm talking about...
Since he put in the "nospam! verification" questions about a week and a half ago, I am pretty sure we've had no spam bots sign up. (and then i've also been seeking out dormant spambots in the vbulletin control panel over there and perma-banning them before they start any trouble ;) )

Thought this might help.

We might not see any immediate decrease in spam, because there are about 1200 "dormant" spam accounts already registered.

You can see this by doing an Advanced Search on the member list:
http://www.nustudios.com/forums/memberlist.php?do=search

Leave all fields blank, and at the bottom, choose Order Results By: "Join Date" "In Ascending Order", with 100 users per page.
This should show you every member of the site, from oldest to newest.

The first two and a half pages are legit people.
Then, it looks like the spammers arrived on 09-27-2008.
Starting from the third page, with MarinaWonders (http://www.nustudios.com/forums/member.php?u=230), almost all of the accounts with zero posts* are spam accounts.

That's pages 3 through 15, with 100 users per page, so that's why I'm estimating we have about 1200 spam registrations.
Maybe it's time for a massive wave of bannination?

(*Note: if the user has a nonzero post count, they're probably legit, because if they've made a single spam post, they've probably already been banned.)

dho, you're absolutely right about the dormant spammers. i will do a massive delete. i'm trying to think of a best way and the easiest way for me to do this. i really don't want to just delete each one at a time. but i don't have a quick answer on how i can do a massive delete right now. any suggestions ?
