What up everybody!
You can call me Mike or Mikester. Either one works for me. I enrolled in the classes last semester and there were hella Mikes, haha!!!
In regards to my dance experience, my earliest memory of performing a dance was a Filipino traditional folk dancing for a Christmas program way back in 2nd grade, so around the age of 7. But throughout my elementary, junior high, and half of my high school years, I was pretty much a wallflower and wouldn't want to be put on the spotlight of dancing but I guess my early dance experience was in the days of the school dances. Upbeat hip hop dancing with the friends and the slow dancing with the females while the DJ played the slow jams haha. First clubbing experience was at age 17 and I guess from my senior year high school til now, dancing has been a passion for me. I danced hip hop and Filipino folk in the Pilipino Cultural Night aka PCN in my college days with the Filipino cultural club, Barkada, at Santa Clara University. I was in a hip hop group called Ricochet with 5 other friends from the South Bay and we danced as a group from '02-'03 but nothing really major because we were just curious to see what it would be like to create a routine together. I choreographed a hip hop and ballroom routine for a production back in 2005 which benefited an organization called Gawad Kalinga, an organization that advocated rebuilding homes in rural villages in the Philippines. I also choreographed a cha cha routine for a friends debut 2 years ago. Well anyways, I've been exposed to Filipino folk, ballroom, hip hop choreography, and hip hop funk. Inspiration comes from names like Usher, JabbaWockeez, Choreo Cookies, and of course Ceech! Dancing is a passion and that's whats up! Looking forward to making 2009 a year of expanding my dancing vocabulary and looking forward to getting to know all of you in class.
