I'm just wondering what you guys have history on

My history starts off back when I was about 5 years old when I got a piano, I took lessons, but I hated my teacher so I ended up hating piano. by the 4th grade I took up drum lessons. I also played in the school band from 5th to Senior year. I'm still actively drumming :]. I picked up guitar about sophomore year and just use that to jam out cause I'm filipino. Hahaha if you hang around filipinos you know what I mean, especially when we're under the influence.

What about you guys?

i wanted to be more talented when i was younger, so i asked my mother if i could try out for little league. instead, she said if i became good at the piano - she would enroll me soon after. little did i know, this was the beginning of an elaborate trick. i grew hip to it 6 months later, and quit.

i can play harmonica. self taught, 12 years running. you'd have to see it to believe it. i guess you could say it's my hidden talent.

Started playing the trumpet in about 4 grade and continued up until high school because I would have to join the marching band, and the people there were way too cliquey and they put me near the end of the section. Unfortunately at that time I had a pretty big ego and quit and then joined the orchestra, where I learned to play the cello for a couple years. Fun stuff.

During that time I also picked up the drums a bit, and then years back I started to play the electric bass because I'd always see my uncles play. I still mess around a bit with it, but it's not something I take seriously. The last time I played was with this guy and we basically just played a lot of the old school nintendo songs, he played the piano. That was fun, a lot of the music from back then was much more complex in terms of melody and stuff which I liked, and the bass lines are a bit more challenging too. Fun stuff..

I've been playing guitar since my first year of college. I pretty much taught myself by looking up the tabs to a song I liked and just learning it. I could never learn to read music so tabs were/are awesome. I have a bass and also picked up an electric drum practice pad to mess with beats. I like learning pop punk or punk rock songs and playin a long to them. Way fun. I would love to jam with others who have similar musical interest. Pretty much anything that requires power chords. Rhythm guitar son.

I played Viola for a year when I was in middle school because there is an unspoken rule that every Asian child has to play a string instrument before college.

Other than that, I started learning electric guitar on my own about a year and a half ago just reading and playing the tabs of random songs I like.

^I always thought every asian child was supposed to play piano. Hahaha.

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask what genre you guys play!

I play from death metal(if you saw me you would never expect it.) to Funk. My favorite genre to drum to is jazz though 8-)

I'm pretty good at rockband. Not at singing though.

On the real, I've never learned any instrument. In 2000 I got into DDR and the whole bemani series was my source of musical knowledge. And my current job requires us to be pretty knowledgeable about music which is odd considering my non-existent background.

I'd really like to learn an instrument though. I have a guitar, I just don't understand it for the life of me. And i've always been interested in the piano. Oh...i used to play a lil a bit of drums for my dad's band haha. I guess that would count. But it's cuz I learned from DrumMania.

Piano and violin. Can't play by ear and am VERY jealous of those who can. I just read notes and learn ever so slowly.

I wasn't great at either one, but I have a small arsenal of piano songs in my head that I whip out to entertain/show off at parties and impress the ladies. One of these days it'll work.

Would love to learn Irish fiddle, but I need a new bow for my violin.

does voice count as an instrument? i believe it does.

Back in middle school, high school, and some college i was highly involved.

State, local, and reigional concert choirs. Doo Wop choirs, Accapella groups, and of course Musical Theatre. Did a few touring companies and got into Penn State University on a small vocal scholarship. My range WAS tennor 2 to a bass 1 or Low baratone.

however, smoking for a few years killed my voice as well as being lead vocals in a ska band with some light screamin. and like any instrument or tallent, if you dont do it every day, you suffer. SO i can't sing as well as i used to anymore. I'm still decent though.

lets see, well like every filipino kid i started piano and gave up. I played guitar through hs and college but i pretty much moved on to guitar hero (less of a learning curve with the benefit to play cooler songs faster). I sang a bit in college but don't ask me to, i pretty much moved on to just dancing coz my voice sux.

like every other asian kid, i played piano since i was 4 and played through college. so what.. 16 years? never really enjoyed it much though.

played clarinet for 2 years in middle school.

sang ever since i was 4. got SUPER involved with voice/choir --same like mikeyp, i went to local/regional/state competitions as a Soprano II, won a few competitions with voice , but don't sing much these days.

picked up the acoustic guitar on my own @ college. just learned tabs and chord mostly but tried to delve into some classical.

kinda wish i stuck to one--i think i would have been pretty good if i didn't get so bored so quickly

I like to play alt. rock and pop punk songs on my guitar. When I play the fast beat/high energy songs, I feel the same kind of energy I get when dancing to a good funky song. I need to perfect my guitar scissor kick and then I will be set.

My friends also introduced me to Karaoke a few years ago and I've been practicing in my car ever since, lol. I used to sing along to pop songs a lot but switched to pop alternative when I grew out of boy bands and into boy bands with guitars.

haha i love how people always note how asians play piano and/or violin.i wanted to play the flute like my older brother, but they said my arms were too short! end up playing violin in the orchestra from 3rd grade through high school. my hs teacher suggested i apply for a scholarship in the UCSC orchestra, but i chickened out. I pick up my instrument once in a while, when i'm feeling musical. i played piano for 7 years till my teacher started getting overly aggressive with her teaching and i went home with bruises on my wrists. after that piano playing became solely a hobby. since i had been on the certification track, i can read music though. being a gamer, you KNOW i have guitar hero, drummania, guitar freaks, rockband, sing star, mad maestro, karaoke revolution and all that good music related stuff. haha. i don't necessarily consider myself great at it, but i do sing decently well. i know how to match pitch at least. my mom used to sing the church choir so i learned from her...then of course there's always singing in the car. haha.

other minor instruments include ocarina, harmonica, and organ. i've been drooling over crystal flutes and electric basses lately, but money's a bit stiff. maybe later. i don't follow a specific genre, i love all music as long as it's got a good flow, i just love music.

I've sang a lot in lots of places for a long time.

I play lots of instruments kinda good every now and then.

And I kinda just got my degree in Music Education last fall.

Here's to getting my teaching credential this year!

Man...

I used to play the trumpet back in the 6th grade and continued into my Freshman year in high school. I was at Hoover Middle School and later went to School of the Arts for music. I stopped playing after I transfered to Lowell my Sophomore year. I was also studying the trumpet with a private instructor at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the instruction of Scott Macumber (anybody know him?) I played a little bit of the drums and some bass stuff, not didnt do too much with, only for fun with friends on lazy weekends.

I was also in the San Francisco Ballet from 3rd grade to about 8th grade. Some crazy **** back in the day. I must say...I like locking better. hahahaha

Well, my history with music is very complex...

I started playing guitar when I was 12.
Played and sang at a punk rock and hard core band (ok, no laughs, it was a long time ago!).

After this I learned drums and some brazilian percussion instruments.
And after this I learned electric bass, a great passion 'til today.

But... when I was 16 I started to learn trumpet, and that's what I love to play nowadays.
I play professionaly with some bands here as a free lancer.

And I think that's all, folks... for the time being! haha!

Pce 4 ya'll!
