This section is design to allow everyone to share his or her dance history with the world. Contributors are NOT claiming that their history is the 100% truth, only what they recalled to be accurate. As human beings, we all make mistakes. If there are discrepancies or information overlaps, that's great. Because, now we can come together to learn from each other.

Here is a perfect example of discrepancy. In spring of 1999, I traveled to France. At that time, most of the dancers that I knew lived here in the West Coasts, California. We all knew that funk styles are popping, waving, tutting, ticking, boogalooing, locking. Basically, all the styles that were born during the funk era. When I got to France, the dancers in France called it "Smurfing". I was puzzled, confused. After speaking with Junior, who was introduced to me by my homie Gemini, Junior broke down what he remembers to me. I will start another thread regarding my interview with Junior.

My point is that by opening up the communication line and sharing your individual story or history, we can all learn from each other and work thru any discrepancies.

Please help contribute to this section. You do not need to wait for an authority figure to drop knowledge all the time. Because members of EBs or Lockers or Demons are just dancers like us and they are just sharing their knowledge as they remembered it. So I encourage you to share, and share, and share.

Thank you for posting this Ceech.

There has always been a reluctancy with folks in speaking any type of history for fear of raising arguments, causing hurt feelings, ego, or whatever excuse.

Holding back any open discussions about what happened for anyone back then can only do one thing....allow for people to FORGET the dance.

Bless you for having such an open mind and for promoting that kind of thought to get folks to speak.

I, for one, will continue to post "memories" as they had actually occurred to me. I wasn't anything more than a very fortunate spectator and participant in something that I knew was special and beautiful even back then.

There's a reason for why they've survived all these years.

I will NEVER STOP or "HANG IT UP" ever again.

Much love brah!

Hey Ceech, still waiting on that conversation with Junior!

On a side, note, I was recently doing some research on streetdance in the media, and I ran across a bunch of french record covers from the 80s, with a bunch of titles like "le smurf!"
