Locking came from Don Campbell

Don Campbell, aka Don Campbellock, created "Campbellocking" aka "Locking". Here has been numerous articles and interview with Don about how he started this dance movement.

Here is a very famous performance by "The Lockers" on Soul Train in 1976.

Just a random question because I always did wonder. Did Don Campbell come up with the lock from trying to do the Funky Chicken, or was he trying to do the Robot Shuffle. I've read two different things and heard from different people between the two. Just wanted to know which one it really came from? Thanks in advance for the insight! :D

I believe it's the Robot Shuffle. I've heard ShabbaDoo say "funky chicken". and someone else said it was the "funky robot". but heard from suga pop, recently, that it was the robot shuffle. help me out if i'm wrong. i need to be corrected.

I've heard he was trying to robot but couldn't. Then he was trying to do the Funky Chicken but couldn't. So he came up with his moves.

In the circles he hung around with another dancer used to shout out "Hey do that funky LOCK thing! The LOCK thing!"

Don is one very cool dude!!

if there are numerous things going around ie the robot shuffle, funky robot, or funky chicken, could it be that he tried to do all 3 of those moves and came up with the lock instead? just a thought...maybe the influence is apparent in the mechanics of all 3 of those dance moves? who knows...we'd better ask Don. hahaha

In August, Don will be holding a Master Class in So Cal. This is earlier on the same day for Freestyle Sessions so we all should head down there the night before and check both out :D:D:D

That's right, Ya'll. You heard Correctly!!! This is IT!!!!!!

My father-Don"Campbellock"Campbell has decided to finally give the people of LA what they want and have been dying 4 for years.:

A Master Class on "Campbellocking" aka Locking taught Specifically by the Man himself who created and started it all: Don "Campbellock" Campbell.

My father is proud to be teaching this major event which is gonna be on held August 23 from 10am-1pm at Beach Cities Studios, which is the Home to the New Hiphp Program that I created and an amazing place to teach.

It seemed only fitting and made perfect sense to me since He created Hiphop's First Dance and Plus I wanted the program to start off the right way.

What better way than to have my Father come thru and bless the studio with his presence for his first ever Master Class in LA. Absolutely Amazing. And I am totally blessed.

The 3 hour Master Class will feature a Video Screening and Lecture, Q&A, Practical Demonstration ..ment and Technique taught by both My Father and Myself, plus a special surprise. A certificate of completion with be given out at the end of the Master Class.

Due to the special significance of this event and the amount of people interested in attending: Pre-Registration is a absolute must. No registration the day of the Event.
