For those people interested in looking up the Katie Couric Sarah Palin interview that Ceech mentioned, here's the direct CBS link:

This is the snippet where she talks about foreign policy:

After watching the Sarah Palin interview, it is clear that she is not a gifted speaker nor an expert on foreign policy and the economy. It is also clear, however, that Katie Couric was also looking to exploit these weaknesses to try and quell "Palin-mania" in the media-- essentially, try to make her look stupid. :p

Couric belabored many points, which she knew Palin could not or would not answer, such as asking for examples of McCain's voting record in the Senate. There were numerous shots of Couric looking puzzled as if to cue us, the viewer, "hey, you should be puzzled too." Couric herself has a history of left-leanings, so I question her true agenda going into this interview.

Palin was so poorly coached in preparing for this interview and faltered back on "cookie-cutter" answers that really didn't answer the question. Her answers were disjointed and tangential (even by political standards) when talking about troop levels in the Middle East, McCain's record in the Senate, and her understanding about the governments bailout of many financial companies, which she somehow tied to job creation.

:)To answer Ceech's question: What was Palin saying? She was saying, "I was criticized for not giving interviews, so I'm giving one now. I don't know a lot, so I'm going to talk about what I know and avoid talking about what I don't know. Show face, minimize the damage, and promote my running mate John McCain."

If it is clear that Palin is not a good speaker and that Couric was just out to make her look like bad, what can we really look to substantially learn from this interview?

Not much, really. We have the feisty Couric throwing questions that she knows she won't get a good answer for, and we have Palin, doing what an inexperienced politician does, doling out political non-answers to avoid being trapped in a corner. Sounds like nothing new to me. As Jay-Z once said, politicz as usuAL (you know how we do!).

But just because we aren't satisfied (or entertained) by what we see from our candidates on TV or radio, it doesn't mean we have an excuse to not vote (unless you're not a citizen).

AND MIND YOU... :D
We are not voting for the Presidents backup. We are voting for the President (John McCain's age not withstanding).

We are also not just voting for the President. We are voting on local measures, propositions, state and local representatives, city laws and ordinances-- things that directly affect our daily lives.

Fun fact for you: The percentage of voters 18-25 years-old who voted in 2004, compared to that same age group who voted in 2000, increased a whopping 0%. Way to go, Rock the Vote! You forgot that you have to REGISTER FIRST! Then you can vote for whomever and whatever you darn well please.

God grant me strength...

I can't say enough about palin or the GOP this year. Its disgusting, both of them.

The GOP is doing a great job of protecting palin from interviewing, for the simple reason that she is not intelligent or experienced enough for the job. And it comes across very well in her interviews. The media and the american people have the right to dive into their elected officials, especially the ones vying for control of the free world.

Coric did the right thing by "trying to make her look bad" because she is a poor candidate and a truely terrifying person when you think about her in such a position. This is not a debate about entertainment value or anything like that. Palin has alot to hide, and alot of things do not flater her too well... just as some brief examples about her and her character (that need to be adressed but the GOP shuts down anyone who tries to as "sexist"....an argument they used AGAINST hillary mind you. way to flip flop):

i got nothing against religious views, but she is an extremist. I dont want anyone who believes that the appocolypse is coming or that nothing existed past 4000 years ago to have the codes to nuclear warfare.

She is way too impulsive. in her charlie rose interview she said she didn't even second guess taking the position of VP. noteven a passing thought. Again, i dont want someone that impulsive with the power to declair war.

her whole "thanks but no thanks" to the earmarks debate on the bridge to nowhere is faux, and blatently faux. She got thet millions to build the bridge, but then kept it and didn't bring it back.

She is good for foreign policy because alaska is close to russia?? come on now!

Dont' get me started on her abortion beliefs either. She voted (furiously) against no abortion even in the instance of rape and is a firm believer of waiting for marrage in her beliefs. Her own daughter, her own daughter, gets knocked up before marrage and suddenly that is off limits to talk about and palin deems her circumstance ok because "they are GOING to get married" Basically she is saying "If my family wants that choice, its ok.....but i will vote against your faimly to have that same choice"....unbelieveable....

i could dive deeper but thats off the top of my head. Oh and she faked a pregnancy too, ask me about that one. its a real gem.

She is a poor candidate and if she comes off looking stupid or that someone is coming on too hard to her, then its true. She is being protected and not asked any hard questions because of this: she wont look right.

now this.

Palin is only the vp candidate sure. however, Mccain is no spring chicken. his age and history of illness (and tourture) make me think that he will kick the bucket within 4-8 years, which would put Palin in charge. With all that said and of what you have seen, you really want her running the free world.....do you really?

and friends, THAT is your reason to vote this election. To make sure she does not get into office. I'd rather an elite in the office any day over someone who makes the public think "Gee, she makes me feel like anyone could run the eitire free world." I'd rather someone smarter than me doing that.

/rant and bitching.

bring it on

I try to respect other people's right to vote for who they want to or believe in what they want to believe, but this is a situation that is tough to do so. I wouldn't want anyone telling me how to vote, but in this situation it really does seem like there is a straight up wrong choice.

I must say that I cringe every time when I watch her comment on foreign policy. You know, I have great ties with Marin and East Bay because they are right across the bay from me.

From talking to friends, McCain's experience as a president would not be the end of the world. However, like Mikey P mentioned, he's getting old, and I am not comfortable with Palin second in line.

She is strictly against abortions! I think it is fair for every female to make their own choice whether or not to abort. What if a woman gets impregnated by a rapist? Palin would force that woman to bare a baby of a rapist?

Shifting focusing from Palin momentarily, all I have to say is that if Obama is going to win-- and there is a strong chance he won't-- the Dems and his supporters need to show up, by which I mean stop talking and start walking. Register on time. Vote on election day. Show up.

The Black vote-- many of whom sadly, by their own admission, don't vote-- needs to show up. Democrats in general need to show up for their candidate.

The reason Republicans win as often as they do is because we show up on election day-- every election day, every 2 years, and every election in between. We love to vote. It's the sole reason why Bush, so hated and loathed by the liberal media and seemingly by the American public, won two terms. Republicans show up.

The party that votes together wins together.

And with that being said...
 I want Obama to win. *gasp!* :D
I love me some Johnny Maverick McCain, but this country needs a breath of fresh air and a shot of some new energy in leadership.

California's going to Obama. So call your friends in those swing states --PA, MI, FL, VA to name a few-- and tell them to show up.

Ugh, I have to agree w/ this as well. Bush won twice because of many of those reasons and it could happen again for McCain. We can say all we want about Palin, the general US population (not talking about CA or NY) won't care about VPs. And remember Bob Dole? He was pretty popular despite his age as well, not many people think about this stuff, its more about who they want regardless of who might be better for us as a leader.

Anyone know when the VP debate will be happening? That's going to be pretty awesome haha

Disclaimer: I'm very liberal, and I knew I was voting for Obama from the beginning of the campaign. I also read a lot of Digg, but I've learned to sift through the Huff Po, Kos, and Crooks and Liars blogspam on that site.

In this case, I believe you MUST consider Palin as a possibility for assuming the role of POTUS in the next four years. McCain, if elected, will be the oldest president to ever fill the office at 72 years old. His health is clearly on the decline (http://www.mediaresearch.org/cyberalerts/2008/cyb20080523.asp#1) and depending on who you believe and what your diagnosis is, he may be showing signs of dementia, Alzheimer's, and other diseases associated with old age. Health and temperament should definitely be an issue when deciding who will hold the nuke codes, don't you think? Plus, he was a POW for five years... to think that he may be suffering from some degree of Post-Traumatic Stress is highly plausible too. Most recently, a group of doctors are calling for the release of his medical records (http://adspotlight.nationaljournal.com/2008/09/doctors_demand.php).

In short, Palin is an idiot. There's really no need to go any further. Watch the SNL spoof on the Couric interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r36Xc0GG4iQ), where Tina Fey lifts a direct quote from the interview and shows just how absurd Palin sounds when trying answer these softball questions thrown at her. It's ridiculous. Not to mention "Troopergate," her views on abortion, her view on abstinence and her daughter's pregnancy, and her highly limited knowledge of foreign policy. She met with her first international diplomatic leader just recently; compare that to Biden's "who's who" list of leaders he's already met with (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/23/meetings_with_foreign_leaders.html).

This election is way closer than it should be. If you asked me eight years ago, sure, I'd think McCain had maverick qualities to him. I give him that much; his past records shows him reaching across party lines. But his recent records show him voting right in line with Bush over 90% of the time, and that's a fact you can't ignore. Now with the economy heading straight for a depression, you can either vote for the guy with a full plan for economic change posted on his website (http://www.barackobama.com/issues/economy/) for all to see, or you can vote for the guy involved in the Keating Five scandal and presumably walked away with millions of dollars while letting three of his buddies go to jail.

CBS News instant polls from after the debate aired last week show Obama as the winner among uncommitted voters (http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/09/26/politics/horserace/entry4482028.shtml). Let's hope it stays that way.
