Hey guys, I'm Kan, aka The 2euce of Spades
Started locking about 2 years ago, around the summer of my Junior year in high school after I saw a video of Hilty and Bosch doing their Red Bull BC One showcase (I KNOW you all saw that tape.) I was completely taken by their moves and began studying locking from the computer screen. Later, I found more dancers and groups like the GoGo Brothers, P-Lock, Originality, Loose Caboose, Angel, DocLock and the Groovmekanex and others from around the world. I began searching for other people who knew locking, and definately knew that there was more to dancing than this. I needed to meet people but where was I to start?
After about a year and some months, I got a tip off from my friend that there was a "funky doctor" located somewhere in San Francisco, who held sessions on Monday nights in the Sunset district. I decided to try my luck with myspace and tried to find something. I typed in "DocLock" and lo and behold, I got the doctor. Soon after school ended, it was time for me to take a step into the world of dance. The following Monday proceeding my release from school for summer vacation, I paid a visit to the session. Little did I know, I had stumbled upon the Groovmekanex. There I met the likes of Chaz, JP, Dennis and Doc, and actually met Mikey P right before he moved to the Bay Area (at the time of our meeting he was living in Sacramento.) It was all a great experience to have met the dancers and I immediately took on a great liking and respect for each of the individuals that I met there on after.
So with that brief history, from the computer screen to the actual dance floor, here I am. I must thank everyone that I have met, especially the Groovmekanex for taking me under their wing and allowing me to practice with them. I must also thank them for their very encouraging words and also letting me tag along to all the events I have been to. Other dancers have been very kind to me as well, as I have just recently come into contact with Shyguy and Ceech from the DS Players, who have also been a very positive influence thus far in my dancing career. It has been a great experience, and I must thank everyone, though they may not have been mentioned here. (OGMike, Koach, Ian from Singapore and the rest of the funky bunch...!)
With that, that's me. I live here in San Francisco and will be attending City College for the next two years. Hope to see you all on the dance floor, getting down. I'm usually found on campus or at the Groovmakanex sessions on Monday nights. Come to the restaurant I work at as well!
