Whats up everybody!
I've been dancing for a little over 6 years now starting around April of 2002. I was originally from a town called Modesto, where the scene is almost non-existent. I spent the first couple of years dancing on my own learning from various videos and forums like this one. Was jpv back in the day. A little later, I met up with the great Doclock at the most random spot, a comic book store where they were having a ddr tournament. He was the first dancer I met and he's always been very helpful.
Later on I would meet this other dude in Modesto named Matt, or Iron Matt as he's known. Very humble guy with a great robot, I still remember we'd practice for hours in his garage. Even though it'd be like furnace since Modesto is on average 105 in the summer.
Then there was one event in Modesto called Motown Boogie and Mr. Animation and Chuco were supposed to be there. They were there, but I was in a quite a surprise when I met this dude named Shake that was there. Apparently he was from Modesto too, and was/is in a group known as California Soul. After that day, I started to go to Shake's studio which was called the Funk Box and was really a dope little spot. He taught me a whole lot and I danced with him for a couple of years until he moved down to LA eventually. After Shake left I kinda lost interest in dancing and took up Martial Arts for a bit with a little dancing in between, but not like it was.
During that time I also met up with lots of cool dancers in the Bay whenever I would come down. I was in a little crew called Fellons Of Funk until it kinda fell apart with people moving away for different reasons.
In the end of 2007 I moved to the Bay for school and my girl getting a job out here as well and I can say that it definitely sparked my interest in the dance and it feels great to just be able to get down with so many people. After moving I've met cool folks like the Groove Mechanix, DS Players, Mr. Funky Robotnick and others. I feel truly blessed to be able to get down with all of y'all and hope to more and more in the future!
