I popped my knee in football practice in high school.
I locked myself out of my car a week after getting my license.
When I was a kid, I broke my parents' window with a tennis ball.
That's about the extent of my experience with popping, locking, and breaking.
This is my first experience dancing hip hop in an organized setting, unlike most of our contributors thus far in this forum, so I'm kind of a noob. But I've taken a few semesters of ballroom and Latin and a few recreational dance classes in h.s. and college years ago, so I'd like to give myself some credit for having rhythm.
Dancing has really changed my life (no, really!). I was dealing with some stuff at the time -- nothing major, just an extended grind of stress -- when I decided to sign up for a dance class at Mission a little over a year ago to stir things up.
From that first class, I had the opportunity to make some new friends and participate in a lot of new activities. And it's also great exercise. And there was no such thing as having a bad week because I always had dance class to look forward to.
I always felt welcome, and I'm grateful for the continuously friendly environment that's created in this class. And who doesn't like feeling welcome, where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came? Wait, isn't that the theme song to Cheers?
