When performing in front of an audience, THE most important factor is: showmanship.

You may forget some of the choreography, you may execute some of the moves a little sloppily,

But if you do it with a big smile on your face :D while looking straight at people in the audience and trying to engage them in your performance,

They will forgive your forgetfulness and enjoy your performance more.

More than if you do the piece cleanly but without energy and looking like you're bored when you're doing it.

An audience totally feeds off of a performer's energy. So remember to keep up the energy and the smiles and you'll get a louder reception.

This is what I learned from watching everybody's solos yesterdays. My favorites were people who looked like they were having a lot of fun with it and made their movements really big. These guys/gals got the loudest claps--even if they forgot some of the choreo.

Well said, Nicole! I think the people who went later also had a slight advantage dancing to the more upbeat music.

So is this where we get to pick our Top 3?

Ceech, I'll try to get small thumbnails collages of everyone who danced last night.

Well put, Nicole. It's easy to forget to just have fun and let loose. When you are by yourself in front of people it's easy to tighten up and forget to chill out and do your thaaaaang. Also, when someone screws up but doesn't make it a big deal, most of the time people have no idea. Unless you are in a class where everyone knows the choreo (even then, not always) the audience doesn't know what every step is supposed to look like.

I totally agree. The 3 that got my vote really put themselves out there as opposed to having technical perfection.

I totally agree.

I try to work on more eye contact and less floor watching while I session.
