I know there were debates as to where popping came from on other message boards. What I'm going to say is that from what I've personally learne, seen, and researched, I believe what most dancers around the world would consider as "popping", the style of dance, came from Boogaloo Sam, out of Fresno, California.

I know there are many of you who are not aware of the debate, and I know it's not fair for me to just give you my personal opinion, I strongly urge you to do your own research and find out for yourself. Please take some time to find out the history of this style, I believe it will make you a better student of this culture as well as a better dancer of this style.

Here is a clip of Boogaloo Sam back in 1976.

So, Boogaloo Sam was from Fresno? That must mean he moved to Los Angeles sometime after he developed the Boogaloo Style. What about his Soul Train performances with Popin' Pete, Creepin Cid, Puppet Boozer and those guys? If Boog style came from Fresno, and Sam is a Fresno native, why then is there a huge debate that popping came from Los Angeles? I'd like to check my facts.

What the huge debate about LA? I know they refer to poplockin and the like as originating from LA but when people talk about boog or electric boogaloo style it's always been that its from Fresno. Definitions and history got too distorted along the way I feel
